Finally!
I left Facebook behind in March because free speech is essential. I tried Mastodon, Friendica, and Diaspora. They need to be better.
Enter… Vero.
It does what I want.
- No ads, algorithms, or tracking
- Privacy among friends
- Simplicity
For a limited time, it’s free for life. I recommend trying it out.
Why?
I miss my friends after leaving Facebook. Nowadays, popular social media is a cesspool of ads, algorithms, and tracking. I don’t want any part of that. I want to connect with my friends, and that’s it.
Vero is the only social media platform that fits my needs without significant user friction. The last phrase, user friction, is critical. I can’t recommend garbage user experiences.
The Pros
- Clean, simple user interface.
- It’s fast.
- It’s inspiring.
- It has Desktop & Mobile apps.
The Cons
- It prohibits raw text posts.
- Photo management is substandard.
- The macOS app is in beta.
What’s It Like?
Facebook, without the garbage. It’s only missing the ability to post raw text. I can live with that. I can always write a blog post as a link, tag home, or other peculiar places, so raw text prohibition is acceptable.
I enjoyed the experience. It’s what software should feel like. Not a grease fire of options, spam, and restrictions. I hope it holds that way.
How Do You Do?
I enjoyed my first post. I uploaded a few birthday photos, then invited my sister to see them.
There’s a clever feature that keeps post visibility simple.
- If you have an iPhone, download the ios app.
- If you’re on Windows or macOS, download the Vero Desktop Beta.
